Serendipity to WordPress

It took me exactly two days to get tired of the Serendipity blog system. I’m a pretty tech savvy user, but man should I have to be? I like user friendlyness and sharp edges and perfect whitespace in my own blog as much as the next bloke, and Serendipity just didn’t cut it. Now I’m part of the masses of people using the WordPress blog system with the k2 template installed and I’m loving it!

Uninstalling Serendipity was obviouslty not something that’s mentioned in their FAQs or forums, but I figured using CocoaMySQL to delete the database tables and then simply deleting the files in the /serendipity directory on the server would be adequate.

Installing WordPress AND the k2 template on the other had was just as easy as promised. In fact I figured I just might install a blog for my dad as well, and that was done during the last 10 minutes of my lunch today. Yes, that’s a recommendation!

Flash-based filter list

This is just something I started i while ago which wasn’t put to good use until recently. It’s basically a listing module for Flash applications in which you can apply different criteria as filters and make the matching list rows appear instantainiously.

Check out the sexiest piece of search you’ve ever seen on the web!

Imagine Steve Jobs: “Just type it in, and BOOM!” You get the idea. Better yet, let’s have Steve himself demonstrate the effect!

That day is today

I’m starting a blog and quitting Facebook. At least I think so.

So far I’m not entirely sure what I will be posting about, but with the amount of stuff that keeps popping up in my head, there should be ample amounts of source material. All I can say is that it will be varied.

I keep telling myself to stop contemplating my second scentance while writing the first; “let the thoughts come to you, you are your own editor in chief in this delightful 2.0 era of the web. Do what others do and aid in the serverfarm-fill-up-festival of mind- and pointless ramble throughout the electronic democracy that is the Internet”. The fact is that I have thought about getting a blog for way too long, I just didn’t want to follower. There it is - I’ve said it.

If you’ve kept the faith and read this far i’d better start being serious about what this blog is for. My background is pretty diverse and so is my daily life. therefore I suppose the topics covered here will be a full on waldorf. I’m a guy who makes websites for a living and takes photos in his spare time. I also enjoy a bit of scuba diving every now and then, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly more than average interested in technology and gadgets, most specifically the stuff that Apple makes. With that comes the occasional anti-Microsoft rant, but that also has a lot to do with the fact that they make the shittiest web browser there is, which also happens to be the one most people use, which in turn makes the few bad days I have professionally. However, for the most part I stay pretty happy and positive without even making an effort. How’s that for a net-dating profile!

Speaking of net-dating profiles, this isn’t one. Even though my girlfriend specifically wished I wouldn’t mentioned her, or our four month old son for that matter, I feel that it’s only fair that I mention the two things in my life that I’m most proud of. Hence here’s to you, Elva and Aron!

And to you, my current reader: Thanks for stopping by, hope you will repeat the experience on a later time!

Sandefjord - the Chicago of Norway

sandefjord-chicago.jpg

This is what happens when pharmaceutical companies aren’t being watched… The photo was taken at the inner harbour of Sandefjord and I don’t know what that in the water is, but it sure looks poisonous. If you live in Sandefjord an read the local paper on a regular basis you might have an idea who the culprit of this mess might be..

As for the photo, it has been adjusted for contrast, but that’s pretty much it. And since this is the first post in the photos category, I’ll let you know that I will try to make a point of including the relevant EXIF-data also in further posts.

Urlaub In Polen

urlaub.jpgOne of the greatest things about festivals is that given the right state of mind (or enough alcohol) discovering new favourites is relatively easy. At the same time, actually buying their music can be a bit of a challenge. At least that was my experience after wandering the urine-soaked fields at the Roskile Festival in 2001. I sort of fell into a tent where a band that was unknown to me at the time was on stage. The band was Urlaub in Polen, from Austria if I’m not mistaken. The band name means “Vacation in Poland”.Anyway, their performance was quite impressive as the band only counts two guys, but four instruments + vocals. One guy on drums, vocals and keyboard in parts at the same time while drinking beer fast and chain smoking. The other guy played guitar and synths an sang lead. Their music is maybe best described as post-rock, and I suggest you Check them out on iTunes!
